A SCHOOL for children with learning disabilities has purchased two new interactive whiteboards following a £15,500 donation.

Langside School, which is operated by Diverse Abilities, Dorset's disability charity, has received the boost following a charity golf day held by Lester Brunt Wealth Management and Property Wealth Insurance Brokers.

The proceeds from the golf day, which took place at Ferndown Golf Club, raised enough money for two large Integrex touch screen boards, costing £6,000 each, for the school, based on Alder Road. Langside School is open to pupils aged two to 19 who have profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex medical needs.

Martin Brunt, a partner at Lester Brunt Wealth Management and Property Wealth Insurance Brokers, said: "We are delighted that we have exceeded the total raised at last year’s golf day and are able to provide two Integrex touch screens for Langside School.

"We would also like to thank all of the other sponsors and local businesses who donated gifts for the raffles and auctions. It was a truly successful event."

The touch screen boards are fully heigh adjustable and can be tilted, which makes it perfect for children with sensory needs and easily accessible to children from wheelchairs or whilst lying on the floor.

Funds raised by Lester Brunt Wealth Management and Property Wealth Insurance Brokers has enabled the school to have an touch screen board in every classroom to benefit the staff and students.

Mark Powell, chief executive of Diverse Abilities, said that members of the charity are 'overwhelmed' by the support given to them by the golf day's organisers and sponsors.

He added: "The money raised will significantly improve the lives of the children at the Langside School."

Diverse Abilities is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which works together with families to help meet the needs of local people of all ages with physical and learning disabilities.

As well as running the dedicated day school for children, the charity also offers short term breaks and activities during the weekend, after school and overnight, in addition to practical support in the home and local community.

Sessions are also offered to siblings to attend play sessions with their brother or sister while parents can benefit from various information and support services. Diverse Abilities also works to enable adults with a disability to live in their own home and as independently as possible.
