JOSH Grajczonek might have paid through the nose for a last-minute plane ticket but the Aussie flyer insists that outlay will be justified if Poole Pirates snatch World Speedway League glory on Sunday.

The Wimborne Road side are primed to take on the 2013 domestic champions of Poland, Sweden and Denmark - Zielona Gora, Piraterna and Esbjerg - for the right to be named world club champions at the inaugural event in western Poland (7pm).

Off the back of a Premier League double-header for Workington tomorrow night, Grajczonek will embark on his journey to Zielona Gora hoping to vindicate his pricey return.

He told the Daily Echo: “I got my flight sorted out on Wednesday and just to do the one meeting was about £780, but it will be well worth it if we win.

“I’m only paying about £100 to go out there, it’s the coming home that’s the issue. Everyone travels on a Monday and the time of day means they jack up the price, plus it didn’t help that I booked it pretty late as well.

“We have to come back here to race Lakeside on Monday but if we didn’t have that meeting then I would have stayed out there for a couple of days, but that’s the way it goes.

“It’s going to be a new experience for me out there and Matt (Ford, promoter) has put together a really good team.

“There’s going to be no easy races and when you look at the line-ups of the teams it’s crazy to think I’m going to be riding against those people.

“I think we’re in with a good chance but we’ll see where we’re at come the end of the meeting.”

Pirates will have a guest-laden line-up for Sunday’s showdown after multiple blows were dealt to their preparation.

Talisman and skipper Darcy Ward was banned from all speedway by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) yesterday after failing an alcohol test prior to the Latvian Grand Prix, ruling him out of tomorrow's GP in Gorzow.

Ringwood-based club asset Chris Holder has been ordered to ride for Piraterna while Shamek Pawlicki is sidelined with a broken collarbone and Vaclav Milik is unavailable due to European Under-21 final commitments.

Replacing the trio are Russian sensation Emil Sayfutdinov, Piotr Pawlicki and Leon Madsen, with the latter two riders having represented Poole in the past.

Pirates: Emil Sayfutdinov, Maciej Janowski, Piotr Pawlicki, Josh Grajczonek, Leon Madsen.

Zielona Gora: Kamil Adamczewski, Jaroslaw Hampel, Andreas Jonsson, Aleksandr Loktaev, Piotr Protasiewicz.

Piraterna: Greg Hancock, Chris Holder, Bjarne Pedersen, Anton Rosen, Linus Sundstrom.

Esbjerg: Rene Bach, Mikkel Bech, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Artem Laguta.
