MANAGER Eddie Howe has praised loan goalkeeper Artur Boruc for his part in Cherries’ rise to the upper reaches of the Championship.

Boruc’s arrival from Southampton in September coincided with the start of a run which has propelled Cherries from 15th to second.

The 34-year-old Polish international has kept six clean sheets in nine appearances in the league and been beaten on just four occasions.

Boruc, who lined up in Poland’s 2-2 draw with Switzerland in a friendly on Tuesday, chalked up another shutout in the League Cup third round win at Cardiff.

The giant stopper kept 14 clean sheets in 29 games in the Premier League last season and is set to remain with Cherries at least until January.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “Artur has been outsanding ever since he came in. He has made some top saves and is an excellent goalkeeper.

“His training time with us has been very limited due to the number of games we have had and the fact he has been away twice on international duty.

“But he has fitted in very well and is popular with the other members of the squad. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”

Boruc reported back fit following international duty and is expected to keep his place when Cherries host Ipswich tomorrow with countryman Bartosz Bialkowski set to be between the sticks for the Blues.

  • Cherries will bank a £125,000 broadcast fee with Sky Sports televising their League Cup quarter-final against Liverpool at Dean Court next month.
