ASTON Villa boss Paul Lambert felt a second-half tactical switch had swung today’s FA Cup tie in his side’s favour.
Villa failed to register a shot on target in a goal-less first half but new signing Carles Gil and Andreas Weimann fired Villa into the fifth round after the restart.
Lambert said: “I am delighted to go through. I thought we deserved it. I thought we were fantastic.
“They were two unbelievable goals – the first one was world-class. Carles is a real talent. And Andi’s goal, with the timing and movement, was excellent.
“In the second half, we were a lot better. I thought we dominated the game. We looked lively.
“Bournemouth are a good side but we were very good in the second half.
“I thought the middle of the pitch was too congested in the first half. We changed it at half-time and played a different system.
“I thought it worked great for us. Bournemouth came and put five in the middle. They normally don’t do that.
“There was not much space so that’s why I changed it at half- time. I put Carles wider and it stretched the game.
“We looked really good in the second half.
“The lads have had a hard time and been criticised a lot but I thought they deserved a lot of credit for the way they played today. I thought they were excellent.
“They were playing against a team who have been winning a lot of games.”
