VERWOOD Town boss Carl Poore admitted he had been “baffled” by Carl Foster’s decision to join Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals Poppies.

Foster, who netted four goals in 26 appearances for the Potters this season, came off the bench during their 5-3 win at Folland on Saturday.

But following the clash, Poore received a double blow when both Foster and Dan Munday announced they would be leaving for pastures new.

Teenage striker Munday, who netted six in seven games after being dual registered from Poole Town, has joined Wessex Premier high-fliers Blackfield & Langley.

Poore told the Daily Echo: “Carl had been a big part of the squad all season. He had been on the bench in the past couple of games and decided he wanted to play regularly.

"He said he wanted to go to Poppies, which baffled me. I was disappointed but it was his choice.

“We had a good thing going with Poole with Dan and that is going to end now.

"I would like to have seen him progress a bit further and would have been happier if he had gone to somewhere like Totton or Sholing in the league above. He lives four miles from Verwood so it is a bit of a shame.

"But Blackfield are a bigger club and are looking to get promoted so maybe that is why he has gone.”

Poore will be hoping Verwood can maintain their unbeaten start to 2015 when they travel to Whitchurch United tomorrow (7.45pm).

Russell Dyer and James Guthrie return to the Potters squad but goalkeeper Chris Lynch is unavailable so James Collins deputises.
