JASON Tindall says Cherries would like to bring in one new face ahead of the transfer deadline – with Birmingham winger Demarai Gray reportedly their number one target.

Assistant boss Tindall was speaking earlier today and as news broke that Championship rivals Birmingham had rejected a fourth bid from Cherries for the highly-rated 18-year-old.

The latest offer was believed to have been worth around £3.5million plus bonus payments and came after a bid last week of £3.2m plus add-ons had also been rebuffed.

Cherries were first linked with Gray on New Year’s Eve when an unconfirmed report in the Daily Mail suggested Blues had turned down an offer of £1.5m.

A subsequent article on Birmingham City’s official website said the club had “turned down an improved offer” for Gray and also cited Cherries as the unsuccessful bidders.

The mid-season transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday and Cherries could again test Birmingham’s resolve with a fifth bid in the next few days.

Tindall, speaking generally about the window, told the Daily Echo: “We would like to add, not in quantity but in terms of quality. We are very fortunate because we have a very talented squad to choose from.

“If we could maybe add one body to it that would be nice but, if we didn’t, then we wouldn’t be too bothered because of the quality we have throughout our squad anyway. If we can and we feel the business is right for us then, certainly, we would try to.”

Tindall also confirmed no enquiries had been received for any Cherries players but acknowledged the situation could change before the window closed.

Asked by the Daily Echo whether any offers had been tabled, Tindall replied: “No and hopefully it stays that way. When you’ve got a team that is performing so well and players who are performing so well then I am sure there are going to be people looking and possibly thinking about doing one or two things. But, at this moment in time, we have had no enquires.

“In this window, a lot of business tends to happen in the last 48 hours. If one or two things fall through then people move on to other targets and that is how it seems to work in this window.

“We are hoping to keep everybody here. With the way we are progressing, it is a fantastic place to be and a great club to play for.”
