SCOTT Mitchell reckons David Cameron’s year under the media spotlight will make him a dangerous opponent in tomorrow night’s World Darts Trophy first-round clash.

BDO world champion ‘Scotty Dog’ takes on the Canadian outsider at Event City, Manchester in his first televised event since lifting the crown at Frimley Green.

Mitchell convincingly beat Cameron at this stage last year before bowing out in the last eight but insists his adversary will prove an entirely different proposition on the back of strong progress over the past 12 months.

Previewing the clash, Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “I beat David quite comfortably in the first round last year but he has played a few televised tournaments since then and that should make it much tougher this time round.

“We play late on Friday as well and I don’t like that slot to be honest. I’m getting old and would rather be in bed!

“This will be my first televised event since Lakeside as well so it will be a bit surreal, a different experience and one I will have to adjust to quickly.”

Scott Waites has withdrawn due to a long-term shoulder injury, while reigning champion James Wilson last month switched to the PDC and Mitchell has predicted a wide open event.

“We don’t have a holder so everyone fancies their chances that little bit more,” he added.

“As world champion I am there to be shot at that bit more but, hopefully, I can get a run together because it would be a nice one to win.”
