VERWOOD’S players dedicated victory to birthday boy Carl Poore after they had run riot against Brockenhurst in Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Goals from Jordan Fisk, Tyler Rutten, Tom Whelan (2) and Charlie Gajic saw Potters storm to success over their nine-man opponents at Grigg Lane.

The triumph came as the perfect present for Poore, who turned 32 yesterday, and the boss was buoyant after the final whistle.

He told the Daily Echo: “We had four missing from the previous week so we were down to the bare bones but the lads who filled in did a great job.

“It took us a while to get into our stride but the lads produced the goods and they dedicated the win to me at the end, which was nice.

“Brockenhurst were unlucky in that they had a goal disallowed and hit the crossbar and had a few decisions go against them.

“We had threatened to go in front at the end of the first half and, in the second half, we dominated – our goalkeeper hardly touched the ball.”

Mark Barker’s goal had put Brockenhurst 1-0 up in the ninth minute but the hosts were reduced to 10 men after Tyler Rutten had been brought down when through on goal.

Fisk levelled before half-time and a second dismissal for Brock after the break with the score at 3-1 allowed Verwood to cut loose.

Poore added: “It’s eight wins out of 12 so we are in good form at the moment and are beginning to catch the pack in mid-table.

“We’ve got a few tough games coming up but we have no reason to fear anyone.”

Potters: Collins, Evans, Buck, McGilchrist, Donachy, Gajic, Dyer, Whelan, Fisk (Murray, 65), Groves, Rutten.
