TOM Killick labelled as “a bit absurd” Poole Town’s upcoming blank Saturday and admitted it would affect his selection for tomorrow’s Dorset Senior Cup semi-final.

No team has played fewer Southern Premier games than the table-toppers with nearest rivals Corby and Weymouth three fixtures ahead of Dolphins.

Poole had been due to face Hereford United on Saturday but the Bulls’ demise was completed in January when their league record was expunged.

In the absence of a replacement fixture, boss Killick admitted he would be unlikely to blood young talent in the last-four clash at Weymouth (7.45pm).

Killick told the Daily Echo: “What’s a bit absurd is that we have got a free fixture on Saturday. I know it’s our turn because we had been due to play Hereford and every team had that.

“But it’s not like last year when fixture congestion was down to postponements due to our pitch. This year has really been down to the success we’ve had in the cup competitions.

“I feel perhaps the league should have made sure we had a game this Saturday – one of the teams that have played four more matches than us could easily have had a free Saturday.

“Because of that situation I’m more likely to pick our team to play Weymouth from the first team squad.

“There might be some changes in that the guys who didn’t start against St Neots are likely to start but I’m probably not going to dip into the pool of young players that I’ve got.”
