RINGWOOD Town player-manager Charlie Pierson insisted he had expected more from his first full season in charge and tasked his troops with pushing on next term.

Pierson’s men finished 11th in Sydenhams Wessex One at the end of a stop-start campaign disrupted by injury and unavailability with the boss targeting greater consistency ahead of 2015-16.

“We knocked out holders of cups and teams from the Southern League without performing or putting in the same effort against the teams around us,” said Pierson.

“It has been a very frustrating season and commitment from players has been a big issue. People have had to work or take holidays that fit round their day jobs.

“It is hard to keep lads playing all the time without a budget. Only three players that started the season are still here and it is difficult to build.

“Looking forward, we definitely want to improve. We didn’t aim to finish in the bottom half but a bad run in the middle of the season left us with a lot to do.

"It has been quite disappointing if I am honest but we have shown we can compete against the big teams.”

On his aims for next season, Pierson added: “We will have to see how pre-season goes. The club has some very good youngsters that other teams will no doubt be looking at so we have to try and hold on to as many as we can and go from there.”
