CHERRIES manager Eddie Howe has expressed his “disappointment” after being charged by the Football Association with misconduct.

Howe and assistant Jason Tindall could both be in hot water following comments made after Cherries’ 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Referee Paul Tierney reported the pair after they had both been critical of the official’s display at Dean Court six days ago, while the FA also studied Howe’s post-match comments.

Howe felt Tierney should have awarded Cherries a second-half penalty following a foul on Callum Wilson, while Tindall is understood to have spoken out of turn to the official.

Details of the charge, which appeared today on the FA website, said Howe’s post-match comments to the media constituted “improper conduct in that they allege and/or imply bias on the part of a match official or match officials and/or bring the game into disrepute”.

And the charge against Tindall said at the end of the game he had used “abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards or in respect of a match official”.

Responding to his charge in an exclusive interview with the Daily Echo, Howe said: “I feel very disappointed to have been charged.

"When I took the job as manager, one of my core philosophies was to always respect the match officials and treat them in the manner they deserve in such a difficult profession.

“I take my position as a role model to young supporters very seriously and try to set an example of behaviour, not only to them, but also to our players.

“When I am asked questions by the media, I always like to give an honest account of my opinion on the game for our supporters and that is what I did on this occasion.

“If it crossed the line with regards to what I am allowed to say then, of course, I apologise for that and may have to review how I answer post-match questions regarding major incidents in games from now on.”

Howe, who has never previously been charged by the FA with misconduct, could face a fine and touchline ban, as could Tindall. They have been given until Monday to respond to their respective charges.
