THE cream of cycle speedway talent will descend on Harbourside Raceway tomorrow to battle it out for the Ade Gale Laurels individual championship (12noon).

Held in the memory of the late Ade Gale – one of Poole’s most popular and successful riders – the event has again attracted a star-studded field.

Among the leading contenders is Mark Carmichael, who triumphed 12 months ago, but he will be pushed hard by fellow Welsh international Ben Mould.

Also expected to be in the mix are two-time British champion Andy Angell and England team-mate Paul Heard.

Poole hopes rest on Gavin Wheeler and Greg Gluchowski, while Australian Bobby MacMillen will be desperate to take the title Down Under for the first time.

There will also be women’s, junior and youth events with the Poole club keen to add more silverware to their already-crowded trophy cabinet.

Poole have high hopes in the women’s section with 2014 British under-13 champion Macie Schmidt among the favourites for a podium place.

Callum Albin and Callum Smith will fly the Poole flag in the junior event, while in the youth section, Dean Hook, Aaron Morgan and Arron Smith are among the pre-meeting favourites.
