CHERRIES star Harry Arter has put the finishing touches to a memorable season by being named PFA fans’ player of the year in the Championship.
Midfielder Arter came out on top from a short-list of eight which had also included Cherries team-mate Brett Pitman.
The PFA fans’ player awards were created by the players’ union to give a strong and credible voice to supporters. The awards are endorsed by the players and supported by the clubs.
Arter marked his fifth season with Cherries by playing a starring role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League and by being crowned supporters’ player of the year.
Signed by Eddie Howe from non-league Woking in 2010, the bargain £4,000 buy netted eight goals in 43 Championship appearances, including one against former club Charlton as Cherries clinched the title on the final day of the season.
Arter also earned his first international call-up earlier this year and was an unused substitute in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Poland in a Euro 2016 qualifier in Dublin in March.
He has been named in a provisional 33-man squad for the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against England and a Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland next month.
Arter’s team-mates Matt Ritchie and Simon Francis were also recognised after being named last month in the Championship PFA team of the season.
