LYMINGTON were stung by career-best bowling figures from Adam Wilson as they suffered a four-wicket defeat at lowly Ventnor.

Wilson took six wickets for just 10 runs with Ventnor dismissing their mainland opponents for a paltry 87 inside 27 overs.

The home side then contrived to lose six of their own wickets but still managed to record a precious win.

Lymo’s Ed Ellis said: “We probably didn’t leave the ball very well but credit to Adam because he bowled very well.

“We stuck at it the whole time and at one point Ventnor looked like they were going to crumble.”

Meanwhile, Bashley captain Michael Porter defended his decision to field first after his team had fallen to a 126-run defeat at Havant.

Opener Rob Gibson hit 83 as Havant reached 237 and the Bashley reply fell well short.

Porter said: “The last few times we’d done pretty well putting teams in and bowling first. I didn’t think Havant’s score was out of reach.

“The pitch wasn’t bad, it was a slow turner, but we didn’t apply ourselves at the crease and got ourselves out.

“The result was disappointing. At halfway I thought we were well in the game.”
