FORMER Cherries boss Sean O’Driscoll is reportedly set to become assistant manager at Premier League big guns Liverpool.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been on the search for a new right-hand man after the club did not renew the contract of assistant Colin Pascoe, who followed Rodgers to Anfield, this summer.

Rodgers is a long-time admirer of England under-19 coach O’Driscoll and his expansive approach with the 57-year-old’s appointment expected to be announced prior to the club’s pre-season tour.

“He is one of the best coaches I have ever come across,” Rodgers said in October 2014. “He has never had a chance in the top flight. His teams were expressive, had movement, they were technical, but he will probably never get a chance at a higher level.”

O’Driscoll was appointed to his England role in September last year following spells in charge of Cherries, Doncaster Rovers, Crawley, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

The news of his imminent appointment was met with a mixed reaction from Liverpool fans on social media.
