JAMES Hayman was the star of the show as Dorset made a strong start with the ball in the MCCA Unicorns Championship match at Cheshire yesterday.
The thrifty 28-year-old conceded just eight runs in 10 overs, claiming five maidens and a pair of wickets as Cheshire were restricted to 139 for five from 4 overs on the opening day at Grappenhall Cricket Club.
Mark Wolstenholme clean bowled home opener Calum Rowe for four before Hayman saw off Alan Day for a duck and Khalid Sawas for one to leave Cheshire labouring on a meagre 20 for three.
Rick Moore (28), James Drummond (30*) and Lee Dixon (47) chipped away to steady the ship but Dorset will harbour hopes of making further inroads when the teams return to the crease today.
