CHERRIES will today complete the signing of Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray – on what could prove to be a hectic end to the summer transfer window.

Murray, a target for Cherries boss Eddie Howe since pre-season, finalised terms on Monday night on a three-year deal and will sign subject to passing a medical.

The 31-year-old frontman was given permission to speak to Cherries after a fee of around £4million had been agreed by the two clubs.

Cherries were successful with their third offer having had bids of £3m and £3.5m rejected for Murray, who was also a target for Norwich.

A popular figure at Selhurst Park after scoring the goals which helped Palace return to the Premier League in 2013, Murray had slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Connor Wickham from Sunderland.

The former Carlisle, Rochdale and Brighton forward started the south London club’s first two Premier League games of the season and netted a penalty in their League Cup second round win over Shrewsbury.

But he was not involved in Saturday’s shock triumph at Chelsea and will boost Howe’s attacking options should the signing go through ahead of today's 6pm deadline.

A team-mate of Cherries skipper Tommy Elphick at Brighton, Murray had appeared to be heading out of the club 12 months ago after being farmed out on loan to Reading by former Palace boss Neil Warnock.

But after returning to Selhurst Park following the end of his stay with the Royals in January, Murray signed a contract extension until 2017 and enjoyed a new lease of life under Alan Pardew.

He featured prominently in the Eagles’ excellent finish to last season, scoring in a 2-1 win over Manchester City and paving the way for a 4-1 victory over Sunderland.

Murray’s arrival could see the departure of striker Tokelo Rantie who is understood to be a season-long loan target for Championship outfit Reading.

Cherries are also hoping to complete a beat-the-deadline move for Napoli midfielder Jonathan de Guzman, although his proposed signing has been shrouded in mystery.

Reports surfaced earlier today that Cherries had reached agreement with Napoli for de Guzman to sign on a season-long loan with a view to the move possibly being made permanent next summer. The deal was a 1m euro loan fee with the option to buy another 5m euro.

However, Sky Sports Italia later reported de Guzman, also a target for Sunderland, Everton and German outfit Hamburg, had asked for more time to think about the move.

Cherries are also likely to continue their pursuit of former Dean Court striker Lewis Grabban, while other players are also thought to be on Howe’s wish-list.

Grabban has been the subject of three failed bids from Cherries and is currently suspended by his club Norwich after walking out of the team hotel ahead of their League Cup clash at Rotherham seven days ago.
