MANAGER Tom Killick has welcomed the tactical headache presented by Alan Connell's form and refused to rule out tinkering with Poole Town's shape to accommodate his two main strikers.

Ex-Cherries hitman Connell was the Tatnam club's marquee summer signing but has started just one Southern League match out of seven with Richard Gillespie, who has four goals already, picked as the lone striker.

Connell kicked off a Dolphins match for the first time at Slough on Saturday with Gillespie, nursing a niggle, replacing him on 63 minutes.

The pair played together competitively for the first time during the final 26 minutes of Monday's 5-0 mauling of Frome with Connell teeing up Gillespie for Poole's last goal.

Killick is known to prefer one up front with midfield powerhouse Marvin Brooks deployed in support but insists the team's pattern is not set in stone.

Quizzed on his quandary, Killick told the Daily Echo: "Alan's performances of late have been very good.

"There hasn't been much opportunity for him but he has very much showed his capabilities when called upon.

"When you have two strikers in good form, you are more likely to give it (two up front) consideration but it is balancing act, trying to gain more of a threat going forward without compromising other areas.

"Sometimes, you don't get as much control of the game. Without getting the ball into forward areas so much, your attackers can become redundant, whether you have one, two or five up there.

"I think that Marvin (Brooks) is very effective in his role at this level. He is powerful, athletic and gives you that balance. If we set up with Alan and Gilly then we would lose that little bit of power in midfield.

"That said, it is horses for courses and I would never rule anything out.

"If the circumstances warrant it, I would be comfortable playing with two up and if they are both playing well, it is much more likely to happen."
