FIVE-star Bournemouth survived a first-half swarm to swat away Hornets 32-15 at Chapel Gate.

Lions ended their three-match losing streak thanks largely to hat-trick hero Wyn Roberts and man-of-the-match Luke Chandler, who bagged a brace to kill off the Somerset side’s surge.

Roberts scored twice in the opening 18 minutes with precision kicking from Alex Sutherland establishing a 14-point advantage but Kieran Hill’s penalty and conversion from Robert Dempsey’s try reduced the arrears before the interval.

A swift start to the second half was required and Chandler duly obliged, latching on to scrum-half Sam Hardcastle’s break with Sutherland landing the kick.

Charlie Carter made it 21-15 within moments but up popped Chandler again to settle the nerves with a decisive effort with 14 minutes to play that also secured Bournemouth a bonus point.

Fittingly, Roberts completed his treble during the dying embers after more intelligent work from Hardcastle.

Roberts’s second treble of the season makes him only the fifth player to score three or more hat-tricks in their Lions career. The result saw Bournemouth climb to eighth in the standings, tied on 12 points with Cleve.
