CHERRIES have again been linked with a move for highly-rated Leeds midfielder Lewis Cook – with suggestions one of Eddie Howe’s squad could be used as a makeweight in any possible deal.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon last night took to Twitter to claim Cherries had renewed their interest in the 18-year-old prospect and were prepared to offer cash plus a player.

Although the Cherries player was not named, speculation was rife on Twitter that it could be Lee Tomlin and the rumour mill gathered pace when Cherries winger Max Gradel replied to a Leeds supporter enquiring about the move on the social media site.

England under-19 international Cook, who was reported by The Daily Express to have been a £10million target for Cherries, is a regular starter for Leeds and recently said he was keen to stay at Elland Road.

The teenager made his breakthrough last season and starred as Leeds did the double over Cherries, winning 3-1 at Dean Court in September and 1-0 in Yorkshire in January.

Tomlin, who starred in the Championship for Middlesbrough last season, has been restricted to three starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League since his summer move.

The 27-year-old former Rushden & Diamonds and Peterborough frontman penned a three-year deal in August after Cherries had agreed with Boro a fee in the region of £3million.

Tomlin, who spent a spell on the sidelines with an injury, netted his first goal for Cherries from the penalty spot during the FA Cup third round win at Birmingham earlier this month.
