CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe lauded Benik Afobe’s relentless streak after his new recruit had scored for the third Premier League match in a row.

The club-record signing from Wolves settled Tuesday’s tempestuous 2-1 win at Crystal Palace by netting the rebound from Matt Ritchie’s effort in the 57th minute.

Afobe’s winner made up for a horrible first-half miss and Howe was full of praise for the way the 22-year-old had stuck to his task in the lone striker’s role.

Howe said: “I see no sign of missing chances being an issue for him. It is part of what a striker does, you have to miss if you want to score.

“It’s all about the next one and that’s his mentality. He took his second one really well.”

The goal signalled Afobe’s third goal in as many Premier League outings.

Asked whether he had anticipated such an impact, Howe added: “You hope, I don’t know if you expect.

“He has time on his side, he’s a young player with a lot of improvement in him.

“The way he has adapted to the level, the move and the hype surrounding it, has been really pleasing. He has the confidence and temperament to take it in his stride,” added Howe, whose team host Arsenal on Sunday.
