DORSET'S Nicola Cerfontyne saw her hopes of back-to-back English crowns dashed as she suffered defeat to old foe Fontaine Chapman.
Cerfontyne lifted her second English National Championship title last year when she sunk Warwickshire’s Chapman in a thrilling final.
But this time the Bournemouth-born ace found herself on the wrong end of the result, losing 2-0 (21-14, 21-13) to the number one seed in the semis at the University of Derby.
Chapman went on to win the title as she saw off Yorkshire’s Chloe Birch in the final.
Former Wentworth College pupil Cerfontyne beat Samodani Wijetunge 2-0 (21-12, 21-7), Lara Molloy 2-0 (21-9, 21-17) and Lydia Powell 2-1 (12-21, 21-19, 21-16) en route to the semis.
