EDDIE Howe revealed how heartfelt letters from supporters over the availability of Cherries tickets had caused him greater concern than any row over prices.

Liverpool’s climb down over charging £77 for seats next season has sparked a far-reaching debate over the cost of top-flight football with campaigns for more affordable pricing receiving a shot in the arm.

But when quizzed on the issue, the Cherries manager explained his own club had a more pressing issue to deal with when it came to keeping fans happy.

Howe said: “It is difficult from our perspective. We are different from a lot of the sides being talked about, our ticket prices are on the low side which I think is great for us and our supporters.

“Our problem is supporters actually getting tickets because of the small capacity we have. I am getting several letters every week and have throughout the season saying ‘can you do something, I have been a loyal supporter for a long time’.

“Some of the letters are tough to read because people can’t get in to watch us.”

“On ticket prices, every football manager would say the same, we are not responsible for them but we would like all football fans to watch as many games as they can for the cheapest price possible.”

Meanwhile, Howe reported his January recruits were edging ever closer to full match fitness ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Stoke City (3pm).

“We are improving in terms of our fitness and that includes tall the players that are probably not as match fit,” he added.

“The new lads such as Lewis Grabban and Rhoys Wiggins needed game time which they got in the week (with the under-21s).

"Tommy Elphick came through another game so there are some really good signs.”
