ENGLAND captain Scott Mitchell enjoyed double delight at the Six Nations by scooping the individual and team prizes.

Dorset’s talisman beat Wesley Harms 5-2 to take the men’s singles before leading his team to a 13-8 triumph over Wales in the team final in Sligo, Ireland.

England were rocked with Mitchell only winning two out of five legs as hosts Republic of Ireland pulled off a shock 13-12 victory in the opener The Bransgore ace then triumphed in two out of four as Wales were swept aside 13-5 but both teams made the semi-finals.

Wins over Steve Mitchell and Ross Montgomery saw ‘Scotty Dog’ put England on the front foot against Scotland in the last four and despite setbacks against Steve Ritchie, Craig Quinn and Alan Soutar, they did enough to reach the showpiece 13-10.

In the final, Mitchell beat Wayne Warren and Mark Layton as England cruised into an 8-3 lead but he lost to Nicky Kenny as Wales hit back with five in a row to level.

But it was Mitchell who led by example to see off Jim Williams in the 17th and then round England’s own run of five legs in a row with the match winner, beating Martin Phillips with his third attempt at double eight.

Mark McGeeney, James Hurrell, Jamie Hughes and Dennis Harbour made up England's winning quintet.
