PIRATES supremo Matt Ford plans to reprise the Celebration of Speedway meeting and is tempted to run it more than once a year.

The defending Elite League champions enjoyed a bumper crowd for their fixture against Leicester on Wednesday thanks to slashed prices and vociferous promotion.

Admission was reduced to just £10 for adults, who were entitled to bring an under-16 for free, prices lower than 25 years ago.

Live music created a party atmosphere and free air horns and vuvuzelas were given to the first 200 children who entered the stadium.

Poole's tireless efforts in promoting the meeting were duly rewarded with a heaving crowd at Wimborne Road.

And supporters went home happy after witnessing Pirates rack up a comfortable 58-32 win against the struggling Lions.

Reflecting on the meeting, Ford said: "It was a great success and it was lovely that the people of Poole supported it.

"We are blessed with living in the best town in the country and it's wonderful that the club is so well supported locally.

"We got together as a collective and publicised the town and the club really well.

"It's certainly something we will be doing again. I will look to do this at least once a year, possibly more."
