SOUTHAMPTON have sacked manager Nathan Jones after seven defeats in his eight Premier League matches in charge.

First-team coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.

Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.

Saints had scored just twice from open play in the Premier League during Jones’s tenure, while his side took the lead first in a game for the first time before eventual defeat to 10-man Wolves on Saturday.

They did enjoy some success in cup competitions under Jones, reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals after stunning Manchester City. But they then lost over two legs to Newcastle United.

Saints are still in the FA Cup, and will host Grimsby Town next month with the winners going through to the quarter-finals.

Jones's overall record at Saints reads five wins and nine defeats from his 14 games in charge.

Saints are the only club in the Premier League below Cherries, sitting bottom on 15 points, three behind Gary O'Neil's men.

Jones was the club's second boss of the season, with the former Luton Town man drafted in in November to replace the sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Cherries are set to face Saints at St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday, April 26.
