CHRISTCHURCH RFC, following a successful away trip to Aldershot & Fleet, have secured top spot in the Counties 4 Hampshire League.

Beginning their season back in September with an away trip to Sandown, Christchurch got off to an excellent start with a bonus-point win.

This set the tone for the season, which ended with a total of 13 league wins and the best defensive record across the league.

After a strong start, Christchurch appeared further boosted by the rest over the Christmas period, returning with a big win over Southsea Nomads.

Christchurch continued their winning ways with a 45-0 victory away from home the following week against Chineham, successful again at home the following week with a tough win against a young Bognor side.

With other teams in the league also having strong starts to the new year, it was important for Christchurch to win at home against Hook & Odiham.

Hook were the better side on the day, completing a league double over their title rivals. This left Christchurch joint at the top of the table but having played an extra game than their opponents.

Christchurch kept the pressure on by beating Tottonians, taking the title race to the final game of the season.

Going down to the wire, all was to play for on the last game, away at Aldershot & Fleet, who could also still win the title with a win against Christchurch.

Windy conditions made for a tough game, especially after the long journey. However, a tactical Christchurch took the penalty points when they could, which ultimately secured them the 17-7 away win and league victory.

With it, Christchurch, secured their first piece of silverware since their relaunch in 2019 and will now prepare for their Counties 3 debut next season.

As well as this, the club will launch their second team into the lower Hampshire Leagues.
