WIMBORNE Town picked up their first home win of the season in comfortable fashion against Malvern Town.

Kick-off was delayed by 25 minutes after the guests from Worcestershire suffered a coach malfunction on their journey south, but the late start had no impact on Magpies as they raced into an early two goal lead through Lewis Beale and Harry Baker.

It took Wimborne just 11 minutes to open scores, Baker cutting the ball back to Beale to hammer home.

Just seven minutes later, the hosts would have a second. After serving as provider for the first goal, Baker got on the scoresheet, latching onto a diagonal Jez Bedford pass before fashioning a shooting opportunity that he promptly converted.

Throughout the first period Magpies hemmed their guests into their own half with frequent chances, but were unable to stretch their lead further.

That pattern continued into the second period, Wimborne seeing out a 2-0 win that leaves them third in the embryonic league table.

Elsewhere in the Southern League Division One South, Hamworthy United picked up a point away at Evesham United in a 1-1 draw

The two sides last met in the play-off semi-final, with Hammers beating Evesham before losing out in the final to Sholing.

AFC Totton loanee Owen Pelham was handed a debut from the off, whilst Seung-Woo Yang, who joined on loan from Eastleigh, was named on the bench.

But after just 10 minutes he was on to make his maiden Hammers appearance as Tony Rolls was forced off with injury.

The debutants combined for Hammers’ goal, Yang crossing for Pelham to power home.

Hamworthy controlled the first period but were unable to convert their chances, allowing the home side to answer back in the second half through Amer Awadh.

Hammers sit in ninth after three games.
