CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola felt there was nothing controversial about VAR cancelling out Wolves’ potential equaliser against AFC Bournemouth.

After Antoine Semenyo had opened scores in the first half, Wolves thought they had equalised in the second period through Hee Chan Hwang’s header.

However, a VAR check saw that Wolves substitute Matheus Cunha had deliberately swung an arm at Justin Kluivert off the ball, causing referee Stuart Attwell to rule out the goal.

There were further checks from VAR as Cherries defender Milos Kerkez saw red for a heavy challenge on Matt Doherty, whilst another Wolves equaliser was cancelled out for offside deep into stoppage time.

Asked if he felt the decision to rule out the goal was correct: “Yes, I think so.

“It is because Justin gets involved in the play after and cannot properly defend the cross. “That’s the reason why I think the foul is obvious. Everyone sees the foul.

“I think it could be controversial if he doesn’t affect the play, Justin doesn’t participate anymore.

“But the ball was there, he is the one who cannot defend the cross and they score from there. “I don’t think it’s controversial.”

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil refused to comment when asked for his opinion.

He shared: “I don’t have any thoughts on it.

“I think it’s really important I have full focus on my team.

“I’ve spent a lot of time this season answering questions around VAR and decisions.

“I don’t have any thoughts on it at all.

“Everyone else will see the incident and make their own decision on what they think of it.”

Victory allowed Cherries to leapfrog Wolves in the Premier League table, Bournemouth now sitting 10th above Wanderers in 12th.

There are four games remaining for Cherries, with their next fixture at home to Brighton this Sunday.
