AFC Bournemouth have announced their first pre-season friendly, with Cherries set to take on Wrexham AFC in Los Angeles.

Cherries will take on the Red Dragons at the 17,000-seater Harder Stadium on the UC Santa Barara campus on Saturday, July 20, with tickets set to go on sale this evening.

The match will be one of two during Cherries’ two-week stay in the US, the club based at LA Galaxy’s Dignity Health Sports Park.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive officer Neill Blake told the club’s website: “We are delighted to announce this game as we confirm our summer tour plans.

“We’re extremely excited to be bringing our team to America, and look forward to this being our opening match.

“It will provide a good first test for us as we look to continue building on our successes in the Premier League.

"We can’t wait to see our stateside Cherries fans, and we look forward to introducing ourselves to many more while in California.”

Both sides are backed by some household names in the United States; Wrexham co-owned by Ryan Reynolds, whilst Cherries have Michael B. Jordan in their corner.

Wrexham have boosted their profile stateside courtesy of the documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, which has followed the Red Dragons since Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney took over the club.

Cherries owner and chairman Bill Foley has previously commented how he would like to produce a similar documentary covering AFC Bournemouth.

After clinching the National League title last season, Wrexham secured back-to-back promotions this season, with the Welsh side to play in the third tier next year.

Coincidentally, the last time the two sides played each other was a League One fixture, Cherries winning 2-1 at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground.

After their endeavours across the Atlantic, Cherries will round of their pre-season campaign with two home games at Vitality Stadium.
