Cherries: Addison keen to assist in play-off push
7:00am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
NEW recruit Miles Addison is hoping to help Cherries revive their League One play-off push after leaving his comfort zone to move to Seward Stadium.
Boss Lee Bradbury ended a lengthy pursuit of Addison when he persuaded the Derby County utility man to join Cherries on loan for the rest of the season.
Addison trained with Bradbury’s squad for the first time yesterday and is in contention to make his debut when Cherries host promotion rivals MK Dons on Saturday.
The Londoner, who moved to Derby when he was a toddler, has made 65 appearances for the Rams – including one in the Premier League – since graduating from the youth ranks in 2007.
Addison, 23, flew the Pride Park nest for the first time when he played 13 times during a loan spell with Championship outfit Barnsley earlier this season.
He told the club website: “It is going to be an experience for me and I think it is something I needed to do.
“There was an offer for me from a team in the Championship in the January transfer window. They were very near Derby and that wouldn’t have taken me out of my comfort zone. So, to come here, I believe I will learn a lot about myself.
“It is a drop down in terms of divisions but I think this is a Championship club in waiting and want to be a part of a club which is taking steps forward.
“The manager is very ambitious and that is what I want. I want to be at a club that has ambition.
“I was at Barnsley where the aim is to stay in that division. It just hasn’t happened again at Derby and it is nice to come to a club that is looking to push on and achieve.”
Addison, who can play in central defence or central midfield, has been drafted in by Bradbury to help ease Cherries’ lengthening injury list.
Former England under-21 international Addison added: “I want this sort of pressure. People outside of Bournemouth are viewing the club as a big one in this division and that gives added pressure.
“The players and the manager know the club should be aiming at least for the play-offs and the club, as a whole, is building.
“There are great plans and you can see that by the facilities and the building of the training ground. Once everything comes together, I think Bournemouth will get there. There are some great lads here and the one thing I noticed straight away was how together everyone was and that can only help for the run-in.”
