DORSET stars Steffen Foley and Fay Carpenter have booked their place in the prestigious Andalucia Junior European Open in Spain next month.

The competition, in association with the Daily Express, is widely regarded as the toughest test in junior golf. Steffen and Fay both qualified at Lingfield Park GC in Surrey – one of the eight UK Regional Finals events.

Fifteen-year-old Steffen, who attends Lytchett Minister Senior School, won his qualifier, while Fay was nomin-ated as one of the leading girls.

Fay, 16, is no stranger to inter-national competition having played in the 2002 Young Masters Final in Spain where she won her age category.

The Ferndown golfing prospect, who started to play golf when she was just three-years-old, also qualified to play in the United States when she won the HSBC Wee Wonders Grand Final in Scotland.

Since then Fay has got her handicap down to three and is the current Dorset girls champion. She also won this year’s West of England under-16s competition and is a member of Dorset ladies’ first-team squad.

Fay, a sixth former at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne, is hoping to get a US golf scholarship in 2015.

Steffen, meanwhile, is a member of Parkstone Golf Club and has represented Dorset at under-14 and under-16 level.

The county player booked his place in Spain by finishing joint first at Lingfield with an impressive gross 74.

The final in Andalucia, from November 24-29, is played off scratch over four qualifying rounds at the Alcaidesa Links and Alcaidesa Heathland courses.

The successful players who make the cut will then play a final round at Finca Cortesin, venue for the Volvo World Matchplay tournament.
