DORSET players Fay Carpenter and Steffen Foley both qualified for the final round of the Andalucia Junior European Open at the prestigious Finca Cortesin course in Spain.
Carpenter, who is the reigning West of England under-16s champion, finished overall runner-up in the girls event, while Foley carded the fifth best score on the final day of the boys competition.
The duo successfully negotiated the first four rounds at the Alcaidesa Golf Club by making the cut of their respective tournaments, to play in the grand finale at Finca Cortesin – the venue for the Volvo World Matchplay.
Eight girls and 24 boys played in their respective final rounds.
Three-handicapper Carpenter was hampered by an injury which resulted in her dropping seven shots in the final five holes for a closing 87.
The Ferndown star, who is a first-team regular for the Dorset ladies team, finished five shots behind 18-year-old Fauve Birch who became the first Welsh winner of the event.
Birch carded a final-round 83 to win the Daily Express-backed competition which is played to scratch.
Foley, meanwhile, shot a final-round 79 in blustery conditions to move up to 16th overall in the boys tournament. The 15-year-old Parkstone and Bulbury Woods member, however, was just three shots off of a top-six finish.
Runaway winner in the boys event was Royal Norwich Golf Club’s Toby Briggs who secured a 10-shot victory over second-placed Ahmed Ismail, from Birmingham.
