FERNDOWN’S Hayley Davis played her part as England shared eighth place at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship in Japan.
Davis and team-mates Bronte Law (Bramhall) and Gabriella Cowley (Hanbury Manor) finished the 72-hole tournament at Karuizawa 72 Golf East on 14-under-par.
That was enough to tie with the hosts and secure England’s best finish in the event since 2008.
Davis was tied-40th in the individual scoring thanks to rounds of 76, 69, 72 and 71, which left her on level-par.
The 50-team tournament was won by Australia, who came from seven shots down to overtake Canada and win the Espirito Santo Trophy on 29-under.
England Golf women’s performance manager Rebecca Wood said: “The team displayed world-class work ethic and effort in preparation and competition. We have beaten some very strong nations.”
