GEORGIA Hall agonisingly missed out on a spot at the US Women’s Open despite a remarkable comeback in her European sectional qualifier at Buckinghamshire Golf Club tonight.

The Parkstone-attached star, a Ladies European Tour rookie, shot three-over-par in her first round but a superb 66 brought her back to three-under and saw her make a five-way play-off with Lauren Taylor, Kylie Walker, Beth Allen and Patricia Sanz Barrio.

But in fading light, Taylor and Walker birdied the first and third extra holes to end Hall’s hopes of competing at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania in July.

Maria Balikoeva, Holly Aitchison, Heather Macrae had earlier secured three of the five qualifying spots available on four-under, a single shot clear of Hall.

It was a hugely disappointing finale for the 19-year-old despite a courageous fightback that had her on the brink of a trip to one of the most hallowed competitions in women’s golf.

Prior to the play-off, Hall had told the Ladies European Tour website: “The US Open is, in my opinion, the second-biggest major.”

Former Oakmead College pupil Hall, who turned pro in July last year, has already won more than 10,000 euro combined at the Lalla Meryem Cup, Buick Championship and Turkish Open this year.
