FERNDOWN amateur Dominic Knight has been routed to Woburn as he bids to secure a dream berth at next month’s Open Championship.
The Boscombe-raised ace will hope to produce his finest form over two rounds of the Marquess’ Course on Tuesday, with three qualifying spots up for grabs.
Among the field are two-time US Open champion Retief Goosen, 31-time European Tour winner Colin Montgomerie and Robert Rock, who finished tied-seventh at the Open in 2010.
Knight secured his place in final qualifying having finished in the top eight at regional qualifying at Remedy Oak on Monday, the 21-year-old carding two-under-par to secure progress by a single shot.
He will renew his bid to reach St Andrews when he tees it up in the third group out at 7.20am.
Knight is due to begin his second round at 1.05pm, this time at the 10th hole.
His playing partners will be Worthing’s Peter Tarver-Jones and Spain’s Javier San Felix.
Final qualifying is set to take place at three other destinations on the same day, those being Royal Cinque Ports, Hillside and Gailes Links.
Rory McIlroy is the reigning Open champion having triumphed at Hoylake last year.
