CHRIS Tyrrell – the newly-appointed captain of the PGA in Hampshire – wants to return the county's pro-am events to their former glory.

The 36-year-old New Forest Golf Club pro is keen to make the events unmissable for pros and amateurs alike.

Tyrrell, whose late grandfather Reg was Cherries' chief scout, lives in Barton-on-Sea.

He said: “I want to connect with the pros and get to as many events as possible. I also want to get their feedback on pro-ams and learn from it and try to get the pro-ams back to where they were."

“We have to try to find a way to address getting pros to play with their club members and clients in our events, not just for this year but future years.”

Tyrrell, who is in his fifth year at New Forest, replaced Weybrook Park’s Andrew Cloke as captain.

He continued: “I want to do the job properly and lead by example. It is a massive honour and the club are very proud of me, which I really appreciate.”

As well as competing on the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands circuit, Tyrrell plans to take part in Open qualifying, the Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship and occasional PGA South Region events.

Tyrrell was speaking to pga.info.
