WITH the current hot spell, most of us don’t need any encouragement to get out and about.

And with the temperatures rising, walking and cycling to get to our place of destination would be high up on the list.

So the £4.63 million which has been awarded to Bournemouth to get more people to take part in these activities is a welcome boost.

Getting folk to ditch their cars, especially for short journeys, is a must if we are to avoid the inevitable congestion during the summer months.

It’s a little vague exactly how the money is to be spent. Although it has been said the cash will go on providing “better cycling infrastructure” and helping people who walk “with pelican crossings and zebra crossings.”

No matter.

Any money that goes towards helping relieve traffic jams and pollution, while getting people fitter and healthier has to be applauded.
