TEMPORARY two-way traffic lights are to last until July along a Bournemouth road.

SGN will be carrying out work in Clifton Road, near Southbourne Overcliff Drive next to Gordons zig zag footpath from Tuesday, May 28.

Workmen will be replacing the gas governor and housing kiosk opposite Clifton Road until Monday, July 8.

The gas governor and its housing kiosk need to be replaced due to its age and to make sure gas pressures can be maintained.

A spokesman for SGN said: “We have planned this work with the local highways team so that the governor is replaced before the winter months when pressures and demand for gas will increase, and to avoid the school holidays and summer season.

“Local gas supplies will not be interrupted because of these works.

“We're sorry for any inconvenience we may cause and thank the local community for your patience and understanding.”

He added: “We'll need to temporarily close Clifton Road at its junction with Southbourne Overcliff Drive to avoid using temporary traffic lights.

“This will mean no access in and out of Clifton Road to/from Southbourne Overcliff Drive. Access will be via a signed diversion route.”

A gas governor kiosk is a crucial part of the gas main infrastructure, as it regulates the gas pressures being delivered into the gas pipe network.

Gas engineers use the governor to increase or decrease pressures as required to ensure gas is delivered safely and efficiently to homes and businesses.
